Unlocking Edge Delivery Authoring with AuthorBus

With Edge Delivery Services, Adobe began the evolution of content delivery for the fastest websites under the sun. Now, with AuthorBus, we are introducing a new authoring paradigm for Edge Delivery Services projects. Built on the foundation of AuthorBus – formerly known as Dark Alley – this innovative approach brings new flexibility and efficiency to content workflows.

In this session, we will introduce AuthorBus and how it works with Universal Editor, provide an overview of its technical architecture, and demonstrate how it integrates seamlessly with Edge Delivery Services.

Attendees will gain insight into the underlying mechanics of the AuthorBus. We'll explore the requirements for implementing this authoring approach, discuss best practices for adoption, and present real-world use cases.

Is there a view on when DA will go into at least beta? This year? Next year?

Markus Haack - Adobe

I can not give product management commitments :-) But for us "Early Access Tech" means this is here to stay and will not go away. To see how committed we are check out the tutorial on aem.live. This was GDrive for years, we changed it to DA some weeks ago. Every new Edge Delivery Services project gets now DA as default, unless you change it to XWalk or Sharepoint.

Giovanni Reza

Will DA use the Adobe IMS and provide access control via the admin console?

Tad

DA uses IMS for auth, and you can provision permissions with IMS groups presently.

Giovanni Reza

Will Adobe provide migrational tools for customer to move from gdoc/word setup to DA?

Tad

These already exist, and migrating from doc-based to DA can be done extremely fast. Like - for small sites you could do the whole thing in a day or so.

Iryna

... and migrate from EDS + UE to EDS DA?

Helge

Does DA / UE support multiplayer?

Tad

1v1 or team deathmatch, yes. In actuality, you can have many people editing a doc at the same time. At adaptTo last year, we had everyone in the room editing a single doc at the same time (~100 users) and this worked without an issue.

Helge

Why is adobe allowed to say DA but not EDS ?

Giovanni Reza

Same as UE is not called EDS either, I’d guess

cziegeler

Two weeks ago we lifted the ban on EDS

Helge

Congrats I guess :)

Markus Haack - Adobe

Yeah :-)

Maverick

Why editing a document inline should be faster than editing a block inline with full WYSIWYG? And why changing a table value should be simpler than changing a block option with WYSIWYG? Can you elaborate on these advantages of DA?

Tomasz Sobczyk

Think about some business people who live in the world of documents, words, excels. For them it's a very familiar place, and much easier to get familiar with than a full blown cms

Ive

It would be good to have visible what is included in the every new weekly release update. Where can we check that?

Henry Kuijpers

https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/experience-manager-cloud-service/content/release-notes/universal-editor/current

Giovanni Reza

Do the weekly UE updates come with a release log with ticket numbers?

Max

No, they are not bound to tickets. They come in sections of Feature, Fix, Chore

Ive

Why is UE not possible to run locally with EDS?

Maverick

Output forma as document and JSON was mentioned? Are we talking about headless api? How JSON output can be achieved?

Helge

I think he means this: https://www.aem.live/developer/content-fragment-overlay

Maverick

Thanks

Anian Weber

Defining and managing component models and definitions currently is quite painful, as this can't be done on a local dev environment. Are there some improvements planned to enhance the development workflow for component models and definitions?

Max

We plan to use the new CF Model Editor to be able to create export model definitions to be used in the definition file. Also we plan to have JSON Schema files per definition to help you validate your definitions quicker and support IDE's auto complete

Giovanni Reza

Does DA + UE provide an audit log where author operations can be reviewed in case of a fire?

Markus Haack - Adobe

Yes, we have versioning of all content changes and audit logging build in.

Ive

What is going to happen if authors add more rows for a block than expected in DA and then check in UE?

Max

It strongly depends on how the component is rendering with the additional data.

RolandGruber

Can I upload and download documents?

Markus Haack - Adobe

Yes, see for bulk upload https://docs.da.live/administrators/guides/import#import Individual pages or sheets (Edge Delivery Services JSON format) can be simply dragged into a folder.

Amine

What specific challenges did you encounter while designing the universal editor's seamless integration across different content types?

Max

Actually not many. Biggest challenge has been auto-instrumentation and parsing a raw HTML document. The UE has been designed from scratch to work with any backend system

Masoud Rozati

Does DA support nested block containers? This is a very common use case and everybody is building some workaround for it. Will this be solved by DA?

Markus Haack - Adobe

No as nested blocks are not part of the semantic HTML used by EDS. I would like to understand to use-case which you can not solve with current block semantics?

Pakira

Is this use case applicable for customers who likes word authoring? Because why they needs both Universal Editor and DA?
